(Toronto, July 20) DawgNews has just learned that Tim Hudak, the Ontario Progressive Conservative leader likely to become the next premier of the province, once circulated a petition calling for the immolation of feminists, whom he accused of being “modern-day witches.”
“Feminism is a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians,” said Hudak late last Fall, although he now claims to have borrowed this accusation from US evangelist Pat Robertson, “in a spirit of jest.”
Pressed by reporters, Hudak clarified that “he might have chosen his words more precisely.”
“It’s really not a question for the provinces anyway,” he said, noting that witchcraft is federal jurisdiction, already proscribed under the Criminal Code.
He then pledged not to bring up the witchcraft issue as premier, although he refused to clarify his own personal beliefs on the matter. However, reminded that witchcraft is for most people a mediaeval superstition, Hudak scoffed: “That’s so 8th century.”
Hudak stressed, however, that feminists, whether witches or not, “are doing a fair bit of other mischief these days,” and reiterated his earlier statement that they should be required to wear ankle bracelets, “preferably with stilettos.”
