Harper’s latest mad scheme has even conservative academics scratching their heads: a network of military bases around the world. You read that right.

Our country can do no wrong. Why is the UN always criticizing us—don’t we pay them enough? Terrorists are everywhere! Gotta keep an eye on everyone—never know what they’re up to.

Delusions of both grandeur and persecution, indeed. But the Conservatives are right about one thing, echoing Henry Kissinger’s immortal comment that even paranoids have enemies. We really are out to get them. Because, when the statues of Stephen Harper start going up, it will be too late.
