George Zimmerman, the stalker and murderer of an unarmed Black kid, was acquitted in Florida last night. With its verdict, the jury declared open season on Black youth.

The “justice system” in Florida put away a Black woman for twenty years for firing a warning shot when her abusive husband was coming to beat her yet again. “Stand your ground” is for whites only in the Sunshine State.

Where there is no justice, it becomes necessary to make your own. Mass self-defence is the only remedy when racist murderers, police and the court system so clearly work in tandem. For young Black men in Florida, there is but one lesson to be learned from the Trayvon Martin verdict: next time, don’t bring Skittles to a gunfight.
