Police bravery in Peel County

| Disqus Comments

Three muscular, armed, uniformed Peel County police officers. One frightened 80-year-old woman with dementia. She was carrying a breadknife.

They Tasered her—twice—causing a fall that broke her hip and required 17 stitches to close the wound. At that age, a broken hip means a permanent disability and a one-in-five chance of dying within a year.

Meanwhile the Wynne government in Ontario is seeking to widen access to Tasers so that any police officer can have one.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Not the Ontario Liberal government. Not the local politicians in Mississauga. But at least the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating. Let’s see whether their swift action in the Sammy Yatim killing wasn’t just a fluke.
