This poorly-written story in a newspaper already infamous for calling for the mass murder of Tamils manages to illustrate once again the stark differences between the majority of Canadians and the Harper Conservatives.
When a CPC media mouthpiece considers it legitimate to go after a man’s family to score cheap political points, this only serves to confirm what we already know: for thugs, any blunt instrument will serve. The end—a Harper majority—justifies the means, however foul.
I wouldn’t vote for Michael Ignatieff if my life depended on it, but today we should stand up for him and his spouse, to defend the vanishing principle of decency in Canadian political debate. And if that makes me sound prim and old-fashioned, then we’ve surely passed the point of no return.
