OK, I said I wasn’t going to say anything about the awful Boston events, but I guess I’m going to say one thing. This has to be one of the most disingenuous forms of conservative reaction to the events that I have so far seen this time around.
If you have the remotest human interest in there being fewer such sorrows in the future, then “why” must always be at the forefront of your mind. This reaction, which was visible 100x after the Sep. 11 attacks, is most reminiscent of the demands that people not. Even. Think. About guns after a yet another school shooting. This is the true exploitation of misery—-the squelching of the human impulse to inquire and rectify.
