The torture and murder of a Jordanian captive by ISIL is a horror - more evidence, if any were needed, of the barbarity of these criminals who put themselves beyond any moral or civil law.

So how then do we characterize the execution, for vengeance, of two prisoners by the Jordanian state?

Why is the cold-blooded execution of prisoners in custody less horrific than the murder of a hostage?

And a tougher, more frightening question - why was our very first, unconsidered response to this news, at least in part, a quiet whisper that said “Good”?
